HINSDALE, IL – The nearly 10,000-square-foot house at 317 S. Park Ave. in Hinsdale may be in line for a historical preservation incentive, according to a village memo.

In September, the house sold for $3.4 million, according to real estate websites.
The owners, Margaret and Phillip Yeager, are asking to remove a rear addition and patio, reducing the total square footage to 7,800.
In the addition’s place, the couple plans to build a new two-story addition with a finished basement, attached four-car garage, terraces and a screened porch, according to a village memo.
The existing one-story detached garage will be demolished as part of the project, with a pool and pool house built in its place, the memo said.
Built in 1872, the house was renovated in the 1920s. A back addition was completed in the 1930s, according to the memo.
In 2000, the house was damaged in a fire. A couple of years later, the owner restored the house and built a rear addition, the village said.
Phillip Yeager is CEO of Oak Brook-based Hub Group, a trucking company.
The Yeagers are seeking a preservation incentive for alternative zoning regulations, a building permit fee waiver and quickened processing. Under village rules, they can get such an incentive if they keep their home in its historical character.
“This project is important to save and celebrate this historic home in the heart of the Robbins District, while also helping this property to reflect the demands and lifestyles of modern families,” Catie Knoebel, owner of Hinsdale-based Homecrafters, who is representing the Yeagers, said in a letter to the village.
The Historical Preservation Commission plans to review the application at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
At the meeting, the panel is also set to review an application from the owners of 317 E. First St., who are seeking a similar incentive.
The house sold for $1.3 million in 2019, according to real estate websites.
