Fur has found its final frontier in the fashion industry: sneakers. Leave
it up to creative director Karl Lagerfeld to make this happen. The brand
has unveiled a pair of fur sneakers for their pre-fall 2015 collection.
It’s no secret that Fendi is big on fur, with their fuzzy Karlitos and
initial big charms being very popular among the fashion crowd. It’s
impossible to see street style photos without at least one person adorning
themselves with one of these accessories. As fashion month kicks off in the
chilly winter next month, these sneakers are sure to be Fendi’s most
photographed street style item.
Earlier this year, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his first couture collection for
Fendi, which was very heavy on fur. He seems to be finding a way to work
fur into Fendi’s collections whatever way he can.
While the use of fur is often a very controversial subject, Lagerfeld has
long been a major supporter of the fur industry. He was once quoted saying
to the Independent that “Who will pay for all the unemployment of the
people if you suppress the industry of the fur? The hunters in the north
for the sable, they have no other job, there is nothing else to do. Those
organizations who are much against it, they are not Bill Gates.”
He also went on to say that “For me, Fur is Fendi and Fendi is Fur, Fun
Furs! Fendi is my Italian version of creativity. The Fendi Haute Fourrure
fashion show is the opportunity to stage the Royal Furs of Furs.” So, we
can expect plenty of fur in Lagerfeld’s collections for Fendi going forward.
