WWE Planning For RAW’s 25th Anniversary

There is word going around that the WWE plans on doing something big for the 25th anniversary for Monday Night RAW for the January 12th, 2018 edition of the show. The show is currently scheduled to take place at The Barclays Center, which is close by to the old Manhattan Center that hosted the first ever RAW in January of 1993. It also plans on releasing a 25th Anniversary of Raw DVD set, although no details of that set have been announced.
Monday Night RAW launched in January of 1993 and was a replacement for the USA Network’s Primetime Wrestling that had aired on Monday Nights since the early 80s. While fans for years had been accustom to “clip shows” or shows that featured matches from other television shows for years, RAW not only presented first run in-ring wrestling action, but it was Live (at least for a little while) and with the show’s introduction, it started what would become a revolution in the industry a few years later in the Monday Night Wars.
Raw of course much like the WWE has experienced it’s ups and downs over the years. It has expanded from 1 to 3 hours and had many experiments and concepts over the years as the company has changed. Regardless 25 years is still a major accomplishment for any television show, let alone a wrestling program. It will be interesting to see what the company rolls out for the special occasion.
