Founder and former executive chairman of the Net-a-Porter Group, has been named a Dame on Queen
Elizabeth II annual New Year Honours list. She has been named a Dame
Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in honour of her
contributions to the British economy and fashion industry.
Massenet stepped down from her role as chairman at the Net-a-Porter Group
prior to its merging with Italian fashion group Yoox earlier this year. She
remains chairman at the British Fashion Council and recently established a
new company, which is known as Imaginary Ventures.
Although foreigners usually are not allowed to use the honorific titles
granted by the Queen, as Massenet holds dual British and American
citizenship, she will be able to join the likes of Vivienne Westwood and
Anita Roddick by calling herself a dame.
Other individuals from the fashion industry who have been named by the
Queen this year include: Jacqueline Gold, the Chief Executive Officer of Ann
Summers and Knickerbox, who has been named Commander of the British Empire
(CBE); Alison Lewy, founder of Fashion Angel, who has been named Member
of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE); and Helen Dickinson,
Chief Executive of the BRC, who has been named a Officer of the Most Excellent Order
of the British Empire (OBE).
