St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University head wrestling coach Steve Costanzo and his staff have announced that three students-athletes have committed to wrestle for the Husky’s beginning in 2013-14.
The Husky class includes Tanner Johnshoy (Prior Lake, Minn.), Jarred Oftedahl (Chaska, Minn.) and Trae Story (Little Canada, Minn.).
“I am very excited about this fall’s recruiting class,” said Costanzo. “We filled some weight class needs with some very talented individuals. All three student-wrestlers bring in some very high accolades as students and wrestlers.”
Johnshoy is a two-time MSHSL runner-up for Prior Lake High School. He is considered as an Honorable Mention senior for his weight class by Wrestling USA Magazine. Johnshoy is a 2012 USA Wrestling Nationals All-American where he placed seventh. He has accumulated an 80-12 record the last two seasons. Johnshoy’s older brother, Brady Johnshoy, is a current member of the Husky wrestling team.
Oftedahl is the No. 8 ranked senior at 113 pounds by Wrestling USA Magazine. He is a two-time MSHSL state place winner as he placed fifth in 2012 and second in 2011. Oftedahl is three-time Fargo Junior National All-American in Freestlye and Greco and 2012 National Champion in Greco. In addition, he is a 2011 USA Wrestling National Champion in Folkstyle. He has a three year mark of 110-15 in high school.
A stand-out for Roseville Area High School, Story is the No. 17 ranked senior at 220 pounds by Wrestling USA Magazine and has been ranked as high as No. 13 by InterMat. Story, a FILA Cadet National double All-American (runner-up in Freestyle, third in Greco), was a MSHSL Class AAA state runner-up this past season at 195 pounds, finishing the season with a 41-2 record. He has amassed a two year mark of 71-8 in high school.
“All of these student-wrestlers have won at their highest levels in high school,” said Costanzo. “I am very excited to have them a part of Husky wrestling, and we expect these guys to play a huge role in our continued success.”
The Huskies are currently ranked #2 in the nation among Division II programs and have finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Division II championships in 2011 and 2012. SCSU will host the annual Holiday Inn/Husky Open on Dec. 8 in Halenbeck Hall.
