BROOKINGS, S.D. – Augustana placed seven wrestlers at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D. on Sunday. Six of Augustana’a seven placers finished fourth or higher. TJ North, Nate Herda and Sean Derry all picked up second-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
North went 4-1 on the day losing the 125-pound championship bout to Nebraska’s Tim Lambert by fall in 3:28. Derry brought a flawless record into the 197-pound championship match before losing a 6-4 decision to Kallen Kleinschmidt of North Dakota State.
Herda (149 pounds) went 4-1 in the open tournament after he dropped an 11-6 decision to Jake Sueflohn of Nebraska in the championship match.
Competing unattached, freshman Brandon Charbonneau finished third overall at 141 pounds. Charbonneau lost his third match of the day to teammate Jeremiah Peterson and wrestled back to a third-place finish with a 4-3 decision over Jamestown’s Dillon Kifer.
Jeff Nielsen finished in fourth place at 197 going 3-2 on the day. Nielsen lost in the semifinal to eventual champion Kleinschmidt but made his way back to wrestle in the third-place match where he lost to Kolton Kersten.
Parker Swanson finished in fourth-place at 165 pounds. Swanson lost in the semifinals to Nebraska’s Austin Wilson but battled back to wrestle in the third-place match. Swanson went up against another wrestler from Nebraska Shaun Qae Murphy in his final bout and ended up taking fourth.

Jeremiah Peterson made it to the semifinals in the 141-pound weight class but lost an 11-2 major decision to Will James of South Dakota State to move into the wrestleback bracket where he ended up with a fifth-place finish.
Augustana returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell, S.D.
