Leeds United wasted no time in mocking Derby County after their Championship play-off final defeat to Aston Villa.
The Rams battled bravely at Wembley on Monday afternoon, but could not overturn a two-goal deficit.
Despite Jack Marriott’s late strike in the capital, Villa hung on to claim a 2-1 win and a return to the Premier League.
For Derby, it is another season in the Championship – where they will lock horns with rivals Leeds United once again.
And it seems as though their rivalry has become even more personal.
And following the full-time whistle, Leeds immediately posted a brutal Tweet to Lampard.
They quote-Tweeted Rams fan and Sports Breakfast listener Niall Horan’s post with the following caption: “Hopefully you performed better than @dcfcofficial! See you next season! #StopCrying.”
In the semi-final first leg between the two sides, the Whites supporters used Oasis’ ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ to sing ‘All of our spies are hidden away… Stop crying Frank Lampard’, in reference to the ‘spygate’ scandal.
Leeds were fined £200,000 after being caught spying on Derby earlier in the season and, asked if the song bothers him, Lampard said: “No, of course not, it is good fun,” though he did manage a little jab at his rivals.
“I think being a Chelsea player there was always a rivalry with Leeds. I didn’t play them that much because we were in the Premier League, but that comes with it.
“I certainly will take the song all day long. My worry is what the players do on the pitch.”
While it remains to be seen if Lampard will stay at Pride Park after failing to secure promotion, fans will surely be hoping the former England midfielder does so as to give fans more excitement.
The second leg of the semi-final at Elland Road produced one of the greatest games in Play-Off history.
