Ashley Cole will grace the Wembley turf once again after he was named in Derby’s starting XI to face Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final, live on talkSPORT.
Few people know the home of football better than Cole, who has played there 34 times previously.
He becomes the oldest player to start the Championship play-off final since Kevin Phillips in 2012.
The veteran left-back has won 25 times and suffered just three defeats at Wembley, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield during an illustrious career.
“As soon as you go on the coach underground, you start to get the feeling: ‘This is the English home, the biggest stadium in England’,” Cole recalled of his times at Wembley when speaking to RamsTV.
“There are always great occasions there and you are always playing there for a reason, for a big reason so it is always nice to play there.
“It is always a good pitch, a great atmosphere with 90,000 fans. Whenever I have been there it has always been a big occasion whether it has been a cup final or representing my country. It means a lot to go back there and hopefully win and enjoy the day.”
Cole replaces regular left-back Scott Malone, who picked up a red card towards the end of the dramatic semi-final victory over Leeds.
The former Blue starts alongside 21-year-old Chelsea loanee Fiyako Tomori in defence, while Mason Mount features in midfield.
