“WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass).”
In a brief statement issued on WWE.com this afternoon, the company announced the release of 30-year-old Big Cass. The seven-foot superstar worked his final match at this past weekend’s WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view, losing a 16-minute opening contest to Daniel Bryan.
There’s very little known about Cass’ release at this point. In early May reports surfaced that he was in hot water for an in-ring segment involving the scripted beatdown of a little person, after allegedly disobeying a direct order from not only backstage agents, but from Vince McMahon himself.
Cass was trained by Johnny Rodz in Brooklyn and was quickly signed to a WWE developmental contract. He was part of the original group of FCW wrestlers to make the jump to NXT when the brand was created, and soon after formed a tag team with Enzo Amore. Despite never winning the tag team titles, the duo were arguably the most popular team on the NXT brand for quite awhile, and remained popular after being brought to the main roster following WrestleMania 32, largely due to their plethora of catchphrases and Enzo’s abilities on the mic.
After last year’s SummerSlam, Big Cass suffered a legitimate torn ACL and remainded out of action for eight months. He returned as a member of the Smackdown Live brand, turning heel and beginning his final program with Daniel Bryan shortly after.
