Kenny Omega will once again make history next weekend, when he defends the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in what will be the second ever triple threat match in the title’s illustrious history.
While it looked like the so-called “Best Bout Machine” was teasing a rematch between the Golden Lovers as the main event of the upcoming NJPW King of Pro Wrestling event on Oct. 8th, the two were interrupted by a surprise appearance by fellow Bullet Club member Cody Rhodes.
Cody, who just an hour before this segment defeated Juice Robinson to capture the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship, revealed what he believed was a creative solution to avoid another potential rift in the faction. Instead of Omega and Ibushi facing each other in singles competition again, in a match that may shorten the careers of both men, why not add a third party to the mix?
New Japan has officially confirmed that Kenny Omega will defend the title against both Kota Ibushi and Cody Rhodes in a triple threat next weekend at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling. The match will take place thirteen years to the day of the very first triple threat championship match in the promotion’s history, where Brock Lesnar of all people actually won the title.
