After defeating WWE Champion AJ Styles last week to earn a shot in the WWE Fastlane 6-Pack Challenge main event, John Cena made a surprise appearance on WWE RAW this week to discuss the opportunity ahead of him.
“Big Match John” promised the fans the he would break “Nature Boy” Ric Flair’s legendary record by becoming a 17-time world champion this Sunday, although he claimed to be struggling with the reality of the situation, and didn’t exactly know how to feel about ending the icon’s legacy. Despite that, Cena declared victory at Fastlane and told AJ Styles that when (not if) he loses his title, he should immediately cash-in on his rematch clause, creating a triple threat match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 34.
Before Cena could wrap up his promo or get to the point, Goldust of all people cut him off and made his way to the ring. The bizarre one made very little sense, rambling on about making magic on the silver screen and wanting to be John’s personal director. He then cold-cocked John, leading to a first time ever match between the two veterans. Believe it or not, Cena and Goldust have never actually crossed paths in singles competition, despite a combined 50 years in the business between the two.
