Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT how he ended up soaked in coffee after a chance encounter with England football legend Paul Gascoigne.
The former Tottenham manager joined Jim White on air on Thursday to react to Frank Lampard’s appointment as the new Chelsea manager – insisting his nephew is ‘ready for the challenge’ at Stamford Bridge.
And, at the end of the interview, he revealed how his peaceful morning coffee earlier that day was interrupted by a friendly face – Gazza!
And he said the former midfielder looked in the best shape and the best health he had seen him in recent years.
‘Arry told Jim on Thursday: “I was having a quiet cup of coffee in the café, just sitting there, and someone came up behind me and smacked me on the back of the head.
“The coffee went all down my shirt and trousers! I had the raving hump – I was about to call them a name…
“…but I looked up – it was Gazza!
“I mean, what can you say to Gazza? What can you do but laugh? So he sat down and we had a cup of coffee.
“He looked great. He really did look good today and I’m so pleased. He said he’s been down here for the last three weeks, he’s been keeping fit and not had a drink.
“It was lovely to see him looking much fitter and much brighter.
“Let’s hope he can keep it up because he’s got a heart of gold, he’s a good lad and what a footballer.
“It was great to see Gazza in good shape, even though he did knock my coffee all over me!”
