Newcastle duo Jonjo Shelvey and Karl Darlow were involved in a late-night brawl outside a pizza restaurant after the midfielder was taunted and ‘called a bald c***’.
Shelvey, who suffers from alopecia, reportedly told his abuser to ‘go back to your council house, you peasant’, before a fight broke out.
The Daily Mail has obtained footage of Darlow, the 28-year-old goalkeeper, allegedly kicking a man following a night of drinking in Morpeth.
The alleged incident occurred just ten hours before the pair flew to China with the rest of the Magpies squad for their pre-season tour.
Both players started in the 4-0 defeat to Wolves on Wednesday, while Jack Colback, who was reportedly at the Black Bull pub with Shelvey and Darlow, also featured.
The Mail quotes a source as saying: “Jonjo Shelvey was in the takeaway when a group of lads called him a ‘bald c***’.
“He laughed it off and said: ‘Go back to your council house, you peasant’.
“But a friend of Karl Darlow has then got protective and weighed in with a punch.
“It would appear Darlow has also got involved in the fight. Shelvey is now getting some grief from the lads involved, although he was not involved in the actual altercation.”
This summer has proven to be troublesome for the club as they have had to seek out a new manager following Rafa Benitez’s decision to leave for the Chinese Premier League.
Steve Bruce has been appointed and will take charge of the club for the first time when they play West Ham in a pre-season friendly on 20 July.
However, club legend Alan Shearer revealed he had advised Bruce not to take the job, saying it was “the toughest and most toxic situation Steve has ever walked into.”
