Premier League chairmen can breathe a sigh of relief today with the summer transfer window shut for incomings.
Clubs can still sell players although it’s highly unlikely any major stars will go given their current teams won’t be able to replace them.
Some of the business done was excellent, some of it shrewd, some of it wild, but some of it was mystifying and could prove to be poor.
There are always winners and losers in the transfer market as not every club can keep hold of their best players and also sign improvements.
So who do talkSPORT.com believe had the best and the worst time in the transfer market? Find out below.
20. Crystal Palace
It’s hard to argue this isn’t the worst business by a Premier League club but they have at least held on to Wilfried Zaha.
Had they lost the Ivorian it would be tough not to make them favourites for a relegation spot.
Jordan Ayew is unpredictable at this level, Gary Cahill is now 33-years-old, Victor Camarasa does add something in midfield, while James McCarthy’s move will only be a success if he can stay fit.
Losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a huge blow and could see them ship a lot more goals.
19. Burnley
Not a lot going on here, which could prove to be bad in the end.
You get the feeling a freshen up is needed but signing Erik Pieters and Jay Rodriguez are solid and not quite what we had in mind.
Selling Tom Heaton is a blow too, although losing Anders Lindegaard, Stephen Ward, and Peter Crouch shouldn’t be too problematic.
Danny Drinkwater’s arrival may be too little too late.
18. Chelsea
It’s hard to rate the Blues due to their transfer ban but they have at least got Mateo Kovacic in to add depth.
Losing Eden Hazard, David Luiz, and a number of fringe players will add to their coffers for next summer, which is great, but will it all be too late if they finish sixth?
Ethan Ampadu’s loan to RB Leipzig is shrewd from all parties and should improve the Welshman.
17. Norwich City
The Canaries have held onto their young talents in the summer window and added only a couple of others to their squad.
It very much looks like a ‘safe’ decision from the club, unlike Aston Villa who decided to splash the cash.
If things go wrong and they are relegated it puts them in an exceptional position next season to get promoted.
16. Watford
A weird one this. They haven’t lost anyone major and still added £18m through the sale of Dodi Lukebakio.
But, on the other hand, the Hornets have only added Craig Dawson to their mediocre defence, Ismaila Sarr and Danny Welbeck up top.
Sarr could make this a fine window but without other signings it could be sticking a plaster on leaky boat.
15. Southampton
Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl seems to be setting up a side built around attack right now, having added Moussa Djenepo and Che Adams to his squad.
Outgoings have shed some deadwood but you can’t help but feel more should have been done, especially in defence.
14. Liverpool
It’s clear Jurgen Klopp is happy with his squad which mean his only additions have been youngsters. You do feel, though, he could have landed someone else in attack with Divock Origi’s form sporadic at best.
A number of starlets going out on loan could reap long-term rewards but the loss of Simon Mignolet may actually be the one which is rued most.
13. Bournemouth
It’s not the most glamorous business ever but it’s looking smart.
Small improvements to a good collective with only fringe players sold.
Harry Wilson joining on loan looks promising, while Jack Stacey and Lloyd Kelly provide depth and a long-term option to the full-back positions.
12. Brighton and Hove Albion
The deals to land Adam Webster and Neal Maupay should strengthen the Seagulls this summer, while Leandro Trossard may well add an extra bit of edge to their attack.
Taylor Richards is a player with potential coming in from Manchester City, while they have loaned out a number of young members of the squad and some older ones like Anthony Knockaert too.
The addition of Aaron Mooy gives them a late boost in our ranking.
11. Sheffield United
The Blades are certainly giving the Premier League their best shot by bringing in targets perfect for their system.
Getting Dean Henderson was a big plus for Chris Wilder but signing Lys Mousset for £10m looks a tad mysterious.
No major outgoings have made this a fine window.
10. Everton
Selling Idrissa Gueye has certainly made things tough for the Toffees but they have landed players who should improve them too.
Andre Gomes is an okay addition, Fabian Delph will bring experience, while Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean hold plenty of promise.
Alex Iwobi’s arrival, though, is a real coup and could be a fine acquisition.
The club has also trimmed some fat, loaning, releasing and selling a number of players who aren’t fit for purpose.
Getting rid of Ademola Lookman could, in the long-term, come back to bite them, however.
9. Newcastle United
Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin are exciting singings for the Magpies, and while selling Ayoze Perez is a big loss, he’s helped fund the spree.
If loanee Jetro Willems can improve them at left-back it will be a solid but unspectacular window. Meanwhile we’re not too sure what to say about Andy Carroll’s return… he will at least add depth.
8. Wolverhampton Wanderers
The Midlands side quietly had a good summer.
They have held on to their top assets, made the loans of Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker permanent, while adding young talents Patrick Cutrone and Jesus Vallejo, among others
7. Leicester City
Managing to sign Youri Tielemans was a coup, while in pre-season Ayoze Perez looks like being a superb acquisition. James Justin could prove fruitful in time too, while Dennis Praet may need time to settle.
Losing Harry Maguire will seriously knock them back but holding on to the rest of their talented squad is an enormous boost.
6. Manchester United
Huge deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire should sort out the Red Devils’ defence, you would hope.
Only adding Daniel James to their attacking and midfield options may leave them a little light, mind you.
No major sales, other than Romelu Lukaku, may either work out well for the club or result in unhappy fringe stars destroying morale at Old Trafford.
5. West Ham United
Nabbing Pablo Fornals and Sebatien Haller was truly impressive by the Hammers while they also offloaded Marko Arnautovic and Pedro Obiang for good sums.
Losing Reece Oxford will surely leave people at the club with regrets but overall this has been a good window.
4. Aston Villa
The newly promoted side managed to get all of their incomings done ahead of deadline day, which was an outstanding effort.
Some say the 12 players joining are too many all at once, while others believe the correct additions have been made.
All we can tell you is that the Villans needed new additions and have improved their team with each signing, which can’t be a bad thing.
All their outgoings were expected and they held onto their stars too.
3. Arsenal
Even though many believed they one had a £40m transfer budget they went and spent big on Lille ace Nicolas Pepe (£72m) and William Saliba (£26m) although the latter won’t join up with the Gunners until next season.
David Luiz and Kieran Tierney certainly beef up the defence but one is prone to errors and the other is coming from the Scottish Premiership and has had injury issues.
They also landed Dani Ceballos on loan but without an option to buy, which seems a little foolish, unless he can guarantee them a top four finish.
Losing Aaron Ramsey on a free should also be rued, while they have cleaned up their squad by selling Krystian Bielik, Takuma Asano, Laurent Koscielny, Carl Jenkinson, and David Ospina, amongst others.
It’s a promising window but losing Alex Iwobi could be a really foolish move in the long run.
2. Tottenham Hotspur
Had Spurs fans been told they would sign Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, while also adding ‘one for the future’ in Jack Clarke they would have been delighted.
As it is, the Paulo Dybala debacle has seen the window tinged with sadness.
Only a right-back could make the haul any better, while somehow they offloaded Vincent Janssen too and they could yet get rid of Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou as they trim the squad.
Getting £20m for Kieran Trippier was a coup too bearing in mind the season he had last term.
1. Manchester City
As per usual, Pep Guradiola has only added players where required.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri has joined, as well as full-backs Angelino and Joao Cancelo, which should see them through the campaign.
Outgoing are numerous youngsters on loan, while selling Fabian Delph, Danilo, and Douglas Luiz boosted their coffers.
Pedro Porro’s arrival and exit is intriguing too.
