Romelu Lukaku netted four times for Inter Milan in his first game since his £72million move from Manchester United.
The Belgian looked sharp in his first match of pre-season and was in a ruthless mood as he helped Inter thrash Serie D minnows Virtus Bergamo 8-0.
Lukaku made no secret of his desire to play in Italy and even took to training with former club Anderlecht before the move went through to maintain a level of fitness.
During Man United’s summer tour of Australia, Lukaku did not feature once as speculation about his future continued.
In his two years at Old Trafford, having joined from Everton in 2017, Lukaku netted 42 times in 96 appearances, but found playing time limited last season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer selecting Marcus Rashford as first choice.
The United boss has said he hopes his former striker gets off to a good start in Italy.
“It was time now for Rom to go because I think we got a good deal, he’s happy, so I think both parties ended that deal as it should be,” Solskjaer said.
“Rom was injured for a while this pre-season, he didn’t participate, so I just hope for him that he’ll get a good start at Inter Milan.”
In their first Premier League match of the campaign, United thumped Chelsea 4-0, with Rashford scoring twice, while Anthony Martial netted and Daniel James marked his debut with a late effort.
