Frank Lampard was not happy Liverpool had more time to prepare for the Super Cup than his Chelsea side.
A thrilling match in Istanbul that ended 2-2 after extra-time saw the Blues redeem themselves following their 4-0 weekend thrashing against Manchester United.
After 120 minutes of action on Wednesday night, it was Liverpool who triumphed 5-4 on penalties, as recently signed reserve goalkeeper Adrian denied Tammy Abraham from 12 yards.
Liverpool, however, began their Premier League campaign at home on Friday and had two extra days rest and Lampard admitted he was not best pleased with that.
“I’m the worst loser in the world and I hate it. The way they played, the spirit, the desire, the quality,” he said.
“I know we lost and that’s it but [we take] confidence for the season. We have got real quality in there. Sometimes football is little moments of luck.
“I don’t want to look like I’m moaning but it clearly affects preparation, it’s unfortunate they have two days extra recovery.
“I respect Liverpool, but I felt we were the stronger team. I’m a terrible loser but the feeling for me is one of pride.
“If we keep playing like that then we’ll be okay. I saw a lot of things I want to see.”
Chelsea must now prepare for their first home game of the season, when they host Leicester City on Sunday.
