Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian could miss the Premier League clash against Southampton on Saturday after a collision with a pitch invader.
Jurgen Klopp says the Spaniard was injured by a Reds fan during Wednesday night’s post-match celebrations after he had been the penalty shootout hero in the Super Cup win over Chelsea.
“A supporter jumped over something, was chased by some security guys, slipped and kicked his ankle. It’s crazy,” said Klopp.
“Yesterday it was swollen, today I spoke to him he said ‘it’s much better than yesterday’ but we have to see. Apart from that it was a brilliant night for him, not only because of the penalty but also because of the game.”
With number one Alisson out injured, Klopp will be forced to turn to Andy Lonergan or Caoimhin Kelleher if Adrian is not fit enough to play.
Lonergan, 35, signed for the Reds only last week on a short-team deal as cover having been training with the squad over the summer following his release by Middlesbrough.
Kelleher, 20, is highly rated by staff at Anfield but has also been suffering with an injury and is not at peak fitness ahead of Saturday’s trip to St Mary’s.
When asked if Lonergan is ready to face Southampton, Klopp responded: “Yes. If we have to make a decision, then we make a decision.
“Caoimhin is a boy we are all excited about. He’s now in training, but not 100 per cent yet. He has to be in training today, then we will see.
“Adrian came in a week before, Andy Lonergan trained longer with us and played in one of the pre-season games.”
Liverpool fan Reaaz Ahmed was at the game in Istanbul and appears to have caught the moment Adrian was injured.
Klopp called on fans to stop invading the pitch, saying: “It’s crazy. We love our fans, no doubt, but if they could stop doing that. We played against City and someone ran on the pitch then.
“At Norwich, there was someone as well.
“It’s not funny. Like the girl in the Champions League final, she made money. What can we do?”
