Des vacances gâchées par les flammes pour des milliers de touristes en Grèce. C’est bien la première fois que Julien et Sarah sont soulagés en rentrant de vacances : “Contents d’être rentrés ! Ça nous a fait peur.” Ce couple originaire du nord de la France n’a pas été touché directement par l’incendie sur l’île de Rhodes mais l’angoisse commençait à monter à mesure que les informations leur étaient rapportées sur place. “Il y a eu cinq hôtels brûlés”, indique Sarah. “Des excursions en mer ont été arrêtées, explique Julien. Un bateau qui longeait le sud de l’île a dû laisser place pour permettre l’évacuation des gens et laisser travailler les canadairs aussi.”
Charline, 14 ans, était en voyage en colonie de vacances. Lors d’une excursion au sud de l’île, avec ses amis elle a dû rebrousser chemin. L’image du feu lui reste en tête à son retour à Paris. “On a vu des flammes, un gros nuage noir, raconte Charline. Des cendres qui retombaient sur les bus ou les voitures. Ça faisait un peu peur. Le ciel était tout orange, tout bizarre, je n’avais jamais vu ça.”
Le groupe de 20 adolescents a bien cru rester bloqué sur l’île à cause des flammes et aussi par peur de louper l’avion. Car c’est la cohue à l’aéroport de Rhodes. Des milliers de vacanciers européens ont été chassés de leurs hôtels par les flammes et cherchent à rentrer plus tôt. Nassim, l’animateur de la colonie de vacances a été prévoyant : “C’était bondé dans l’aéroport. Pour l’enregistrement, c’était un peu compliqué.”
