HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale is poised to finish studying a northeast neighborhood that is prone to flooding.
On Tuesday, the Village Board discussed hiring engineering firm HR Green to examine the area’s drainage. It would be focused on the intersection of Phillippa Street and Fuller Road.
For years, residents in the neighborhood have complained about flooding.
In spring 2021, the board hired consultant Benes and Associates, which completed a draft report. But the firm went out of business in late 2022, which was before the final report was done.
HR Green is expected to verify the draft report’s information and complete the work.
The draft study envisioned projects that would improve the existing drainage in the neighborhood, according to a village memo.

HR Green’s study is expected to be finished early next year, with a possible project as early as 2026, the memo said.
The Illinois Tollway is slated to pay for half of HR Green’s $26,000 bill because the area drains on tollway property.
In 2021, flooding in the neighborhood was blamed on the years-long Interstate 294 project. The tollway promised to reimburse residents for damage.
At Tuesday’s board meeting, Trustee Luke Stifflear asked whether residents in the neighborhood had been informed of the latest development. A staffer said they would be told.
A vote on HR Green’s hiring is set for the board’s next meeting.
