New York – Marc Jacobs has joined the ranks of designers like Derek Lam who have
changed the time and usual venue of their New York Fashion Week shows. In
the past, Jacobs traditionally held his runway show at the Park Avenue
Armory at 6 p.m. on the finale day of New York Fashion Week. This season,
however, he will be showing at the Hammerstein Ballroom on the final day at
2 p.m.
A representative for the brand said that Marc Jacobs was able to move to an
earlier time slot at Hammerstein Ballroom because they were more flexible
than Park Avenue Armory. Also, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, who also
traditionally show on the last day, are showing their collections at other
times. Calvin Klein is actually opting for a showroom presentation style
format.
Jacobs has declined to reveal any further details about his show.
Last year, Jacobs show drew major media attention when Lady Gaga walked the
runway for him. Perhaps with all these changes afoot he might have some
surprises in store for us. The brand’s sales haven’t been what LVMH would
like to see lately, so the designer will need to do something to get
customers flocking back to his stores.
