LAKE COUNTY, IL — Five businesses in Lake County have been cited for selling alcohol to a minor during recent compliance checks.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducts alcohol compliance checks at Lake County businesses that sell liquor between three and four times per year, said Christopher Covelli, deputy chief with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. In recent weeks, the sheriff’s office conducted the checks at 55 businesses.
Of those businesses, five sold alcohol to someone who was under the age of 21 years old, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Covelli said the Shell was also cited in 2018 for selling alcohol to a minor.
Clerks who sold the alcohol to a minor received citations, and will be required to appear in Waukegan court. Meanwhile, notice of the violations were sent to the liquor commissions in the jurisdictions where the businesses are located.
