Roy Keane was critical of England’s second-half performance during Tuesday’s 5-3 Euro 2020 qualifying defeat of Kosovo.
Valon Berisha’s opener after 34 seconds gave the visitors a shock lead, but Gareth Southgate’s side responded with five goals before the break at St Mary’s.
Harry Kane says England can beat France, Spain and Holland
However, Kosovo, ranked 120th in the world and one of UEFA’s newest nations, scored twice in the second-half, while Harry Kane also missed a penalty.
While Keane praised the Three Lions for their first-half showing, he blasted them as being ‘sloppy’ after the break.
“Sometimes players get bored when the game seems over, that’s where the sloppiness comes in,” said Keane on ITV Sport.
“It’s okay giving the ball away, but they compounded it by not getting back round, covering for your teammates.
“If you were on the training pitch at your club you’d think that the players weren’t taking it seriously, it was that sloppy.”
England are top of Group A with four wins from four Euro 2020 qualifying games.
They’ve scored 19 goals during their qualifying campaign, but Southgate admitted concern over his team’s defensive showing.
“A bizarre game really,” Southgate said afterwards.
“There were obvious poor errors for goals but I’m really pleased with the composure we showed. We used the ball well.
“The errors, we have to be better – the players don’t need me to tell them that. The outstanding parts of our play were obvious, the errors were obvious.”
