British designer brand Fyodor Golan aren’t strangers to innovation for
their fashion shows, they once produced an interactive skirt made up of
Nokia Lumia smartphones, and this season they decided to produce an
immersive, 3D presentation over the traditional catwalk format.
Using fashion and film CGI technology, Fyodor Golan showcased their
spring/summer 2017 collection on CGI generated avatars that walked on
rainbow reflected water, combined with real-life models as they looked to
blur the lines between reality and moving, reactive computer avatars.
The idea, according to the press statement for this immersive 3D
presentation, was to push the boundaries between “nature and
plasticisation”, adding that the CGI avatars wearing computer generated
Fyodor Golan designs allows for multiple perspective views in what they
call a “visually saturated” representation.
The multimedia presentation was a little trippy, it was the first time
I’d been given wireless branded headphones as I entered a fashion show, and
I have, to be honest, I wasn’t sure what to think when I entered the
darkened room to see just huge screens in it.
While the digital presentation may have been short, it did introduce the
futuristic, psychedelic world that the neon, denim, oversized, and
ruffle-heavy collection would fit into. Without combining both digital and
real-life models, I wouldn’t have believed the brash, neon colours were
reality or seen the metallic, holographic-style fabric shimmer.
In addition to the digital showcase, Fyodor Golan announced that it was
launching a 3D fashion e-commerce platform in collaboration with
Miximaliste, an innovative and sustainable pre-order retail business. The
concept means that through 3D simulated content, only the products ordered
are produced, meaning no prototyping, no physical stock, and no waste.
Miximaliste is offering 10 looks from Fyodor Golan’s spring/summer 2017
collection, including the boxy prism jacket that was seen with the frayed
ruffled jeans, the white T-shirt dress seen with the psychedelic geisha
ruffle skirt, and the prism zip up dress.
All orders are to be placed before October 10, with delivery expected in
November. Prices range from 215 pounds for a white T-shirt dress to 1,580
for the prism zip up dress.
