London Fashion Week saw an explosion of knitwear talent and specialists on its February catwalk. For next season, fine cashmere affenciado’s and wool worshippers should look out for the new collections of Louise Goldin, LFW first timer Mark Fast, emerging knitwear label Sibling and British designer Rebecca Cella.
The knitwear movement in London continued, especially now many knitwear designers showed on the official LFW schedule for AW09. The experimental knits by Louise Goldin, the edgy creations by Mark Fast and other New Generation sponsorship designers such as Cooperative Designs and Graig Lawrence certainly set the tone for a new knitwear era.
Fashion Editor of The Daily Telegraph, Hilary Alexander, commented: ”London Fashion Week has a rich heritage of knit wizardry, early on spearheaded by the young Royal College of Art graduate Julien Macdonald, whose knit-craft so entranced Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld.”
Sibling’s design trio presented their new collection with two short films created by the label’s photographer Axel Hoedt at The Old Embassy across from the BFC tents. Cozette McCreery, Joe Bates and Sid Bryan, who have worked on runway knitwear for the likes of Giles, Alexander McQueen and Jonathan Saunders – showcased directional designs featuring a cashmere biker jacket with a foil-coated knits, mohair sweatshirt and beaded cashmere.
Rebecca Cella’s embellished knits were already seen on Alesha Dixon in the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine. For upcoming season, Cella created different designs spun from the finest yarns and intricate knitting techniques.
