New York-based artisanal leather designer Zana Bayne is the latest
designer to collaborate with & Other Stories as part of its Co-Lab
initiative, which most recently teamed up with Rodarte.
The Co-Lab collection will feature around 30 leather pieces and
accessories, all with a strong emphasis on femininity for autumn/winter
2016, including chokers and leather bustiers. This collection will sit
alongside a ready-to-wear line, designed by the & Other Stories team, with
the creative help of Bayne and her co-creative director Todd Pendu to
complement the pieces.
Bayne is known for her quality craftsmanship and designs that feature
striking graphic lines and shapes aimed to accentuate the personal style of
the individual wearer. The designer is probably best known for her fashion
harnesses as Bayne is Beyonce’s go-to leather accessories designer, and her
pieces made an appearance in both the singer’s Super Bowl performance as
well as in her recent Lemonade video.
Commenting on the collaboration, Bayne said: “We set out to create a
leather collection for modern women, juxtaposing the hard and soft
throughout; taking pieces such as the leather harness out of its
connotations and making it an elegant accessory for layering over any
wardrobe in all types of occasions.”
The New York label is hoping that the collaboration will allow it to
reach a new audience, one that may never have worn leather pieces like
these before.
Full details of the collection is being kept under wraps, just that the
collaboration will feature “core designs to compliment wardrobe staples”.
& Other Stories is a subsidiary of H&M, and its concept is based around
creating collection built around inspiring fashion stories, and it has
previously worked with designers including Clare Vivier, Lykke Li, Swedish
designer A-S Dåvik, Sadie Williams, and most recently Rodarte on its Co-Lab
initiative, which works with a mix of both new and more established talent
to add to & Other Stories collections.
Zana Bayne has previously collaborated with a number of luxury brands
including Comme des Garcons, Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Bibhu Mohapatra,
and Manish Arora.
The Zana Bayne Co-Lab collection will be available in selected & Other
Stories stores and online from autumn 2016. An exact release date has not
yet been set.
