New York – Rihanna is a star who likes to do things big, and she certainly made waves
with her Fenty Puma collection which debuted at New York Fashion Week last
February. Now, it has been reported she has her sights set on the mother of
all fashion weeks for her next collection: Paris Fashion Week.
Puma is currently seeking a time slot for the show which will be somewhere
between September 27 to October 5 when the shows are set to take place.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Fenty Puma would not be showing at New
York Fashion Week next month. It’s unusual for brands that were so
successful last season to just skip Fashion Week, and speculation
immediately began as to what was planned for the line.
Rihanna’s subbrand will still have a presence at New York Fashion Week
though, with a series of pop-up shops planned to mark the release of the
fall collection. On September 6, Fenty pop-up shops will open at Bergdorf
Goodman and Footlocker’s prestige retail Six:02.
The collection will be exclusive to those pop-up shops for 24 hours before
they go worldwide for distribution on September 7.
If Rihanna were to show at Paris Fashion Week, she would be part of a very
history making season which includes Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection
for Dior, Anthony Vaccarello’s first collection for Saint Laurent, Bouchra
Jarrar’s first collection for Lanvin, and Pierpaolo Picciolli’s first solo
collection for Valentino.
While the preliminary calendar for Paris Fashion Week was released by the
Chambre de Synical on Wednesday did not include a slot for Puma, the
calendar is of course known to shift plenty between now and the beginning
of the shows.
Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, became Puma’s creative director in
2014 when they signed a three year deal with her.
It was a smart business move for the brand, as her Fenty slides sold out
within 24 hours of going on the market. Her creeper shoe has also been
successful.
