Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed January deals are possible for Manchester United – as long as they make sense.
The Red Devils have been linked with a host of midfielders as Solskjaer plots to strengthen his struggling squad, with the likes of Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Sean Longstaff all said to be wanted by United.
Improving United’s midfield is a key priority for Solskjaer as it has been identified as the weakest area of the Red Devils’ squad – and it could get even worse if Paul Pogba completes a move away from Old Trafford amid interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.
While Scott McTominay has impressed this season, Fred continues to blow hot and cold and Nemanja Matic appears past it as an elite footballer, while Andreas Pereira is clearly not good enough for a club of United’s stature.
It is easy to see why the Red Devils are checking on many midfielders, though Solskjaer has confirmed he will not sign players this month for the sake of it.
Asked about his transfer plans in Friday’s press conference, Solskjaer admitted: “We’re still looking.
“As I’ve said so many times we have our targets if they become available and if it’s something we want to do. And if the right ones aren’t there, then they aren’t.”
Solskjaer also discussed other topics during his press conference, and you can read the best bits, below…
“Paul came back after a long spell out, but he couldn’t go to Burnley as he felt his ankle was sore. We did a scan and it’s not the same injury, it’s a different injury.
“When you get that scan you consult your own medical people as well like I did; you want the best second opinion and the advice was to have it done.
“It’s not a major one, and probably as I said three or four weeks.”
“As in when you consult your surgeon and ones you trust – that’s maybe my bad English.
“You have people you trust and speak to. When I did my injuries I had my people I spoke to, and Paul has people he trusts, and that’s more important.
“That’s more or less it. As clear as it can be at this point.”

“First of all we blame the FA for hot and cold balls… Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves away and Wolves away – they are not going to make it easy for us.
“Fourth time already in my time at Molineux and we haven’t won there. Liverpool lost there last season, [Man] City recently… We’ve got to play well, got to perform and we’ve got to go there positive because we want a reaction after a defeat at Arsenal.
“Everybody said it was a bad, bad performance but in my opinion it was a good game between good teams.”
“Sergio [Romero] will play tomorrow because he’s always done well when called upon. Mason [Greenwood] will just continue until he’s a regular.
“Paul is out. Axel [Tuanzebe], Eric [Bailly] and Tim [Fosu-Mensah] are getting closer but won’t be ready for this. [Marcos] Rojo won’t be ready for this.
“There are a couple of illnesses and colds, which is normal for this time, so I’ll have to see who wakes up tomorrow and feels okay.”
