GAASTRA’s ‘reinvention’ strategy, launched for the collections in 2016, is clearly
paying off. Thanks to the new direction, the brand has been increasingly noticed by opinion makers.
The new Fall/Winter 16-17 collection is inspired by ‘The Elements’ and ‘Craftsmanship’ and appears to be highly promising.
The new collection structure is tailored to usage moments, both on water and on shore. The
composition of the SAILMAKER, YACHTCLUB and SPORT clothing lines created the opportunity for intensification and reflection. Renewal, innovation and product focus are the emphasis of the Fall/Winter 16-17 collection. A phased delivery schedule has also been developed and the ice sailing collection has been integrated into the main season. The brand reflects a new and trendy look & feel dominated by a combination of functionality and high-quality fashion. The GAASTRA style icons have been carefully re-examined and given a new platform. For the outerwear, this involves the pea coat, duffle coat, deck jacket, sailmaker parka, crew jacket and anorak. But the nautical blazer, shirt and polo shirt have also been updated. This has resulted in new fits, better material treatments and fine-tuning of the logo usage. In general, the look is now trendier and more inventive.
The GAASTRA SAILMAKER collection reverts back to the GAASTRA
heritage and presents a casual deck line that can also be worn as
part of an urban style. The collection will be delivered in two
phases and is the result of a passion for the history of the brand
and respect for craftsmanship. Dozens of years in the sailing world
served as inspiration and resulted in fantastic clothing with a
vintage and richly weathered personality. The focus within the
collection is on unique pieces instead of the entire collection
programme.
The first delivery phase is oriented around sun-bleached and muted
colours like Red Rust, Faded Shrimp Pink, Storm Cloud Grey, Winter
White and Shampshire Rusty Green. Buoy Yellow and Baikal Blue are
dominant colours during the second delivery period.
SAILMAKER has a strong knitwear core. GAASTRA presents special captain jumpers inspired by the old Dutch legacy of the fisherman’s jumper between 1875-1930. These jumpers feature rich knits with straight and reversed stitching originating specifically from the various Dutch fishing villages. The collection comprises the Noordwijk pullover, Stellendam pullover, Scheveningen pullover and Harderwijk pullover.
The trouser collection within the Fall/Winter16-17 collection has also been greatly expanded. In
keeping with the ‘reinvention’ strategy, GAASTRA is offering new fits alongside familiar models like the Dagger and Deck Chino, including the comfort-tapered Rocco for men and boyfriend-fit Denia and mid- waist skinny Magna for women.
The GAASTRA YACHTCLUB collection is inspired by the lively
nautical jet set of the Newport Yacht Club in Rhode Island in the
U.S. Newport is also referred to as the City by the Sea. The
‘preppy’ all-American lifestyle is clearly reflected in the
collection. The colours are primary, the graphics classic and the
material pure, crisp and fresh. The collection features the
traditional ultimate classics: luxury striped jumpers, slim fit
chinos, nautical wool blazers and a rich collection of nautical long
sleeve polo shirts. A knit poncho has been added for the ladies.
There is also an emphasis on luxury artworks, with extensive use
of copper lurex threads and signal flags incorporated subtly into
the embellishments.
YACHTCLUB is available in two delivery phases. The first phase is
dominated by the sailing community, featuring basic colours like Baikal
Blue and White Pearl, with the addition of deep Gulf Green and Ebony
Brown-Yellow for men and Pink Sea Flower for women. During the
second phase, the collection is brightened up with Shell Coral-Orange and Bay Blue.
The GAASTRA SPORT collection is inspired by the search for
innovation for one of the most notorious and challenging
sailing journeys for a sailor: the passage around Cape Horn.
This is where two oceans, the Pacific and Atlantic, crash
violently together, and the chill of the Antarctic can clearly be
felt and storms rage. ‘Sailing the rough seas’ formed the
inspiration for innovation, renewal and broadening.
The SPORT collection has been expanded and consists of three
delivery phases. The material treatment has been updated
and layer systems added to the structure of the clothing. The
jackets are made up of two or three layers so they can be worn all year round.
The nautical anorak model has also been introduced and the entire garment
features nautical prints, such as ‘sea in black-and-white’. The dominant colours
are Safety Yellow and Coral Fluo. New this year is the addition of the ice sailing
core collection to the main collection.
