Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is one of several prominent Democrats featured on the cover of TIME Magazine’s latest issue. A crowded field of announced and possible Democrat White House contenders are portrayed peering into the Oval Office, where President Donald Trump is sitting.
Abrams, who has not announced her future political plans, is shown along with Democrats such as U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Cory Booker, all of whom have announced White House bids. Former Vice President Joe Biden is also pictured, even though he has not announced a 2020 presidential bid.
Abrams, who unsuccessfully ran for Georgia governor last fall in one of the nation’s most watched elections, delivered her party’s widely praised rebuttal to President Trump’s state of the union address earlier this month. Abrams has made no secret of her desire to run for political office again, whether it be against U.S. Sen. David Perdue in 2020 or a 2022 gubernatorial campaign against Brian Kemp, who narrowly defeated Abrams last November.
Abrams was seeking to become the nation’s first African-American female governor. After becoming the nation’s first African-American female candidate to earn her party’s nomination for a major statewide office, Abrams made history again as the first black woman to deliver her party’s rebuttal.
