U.S. Marathons Hit Another All-Time High
With 550,637 Finishers; TCS New York City Marathon Continues to Hold
Largest Marathon Title
Gender split has remained consistent compared to previous years: 57%
males (311,366 ÛÓ all-time high) and 43% females (239,271 ÛÓ all-time
high) finishers. 48% of finishers were masters, 40 and older (264,305,
also a new higher overall and percent).
2014 marks the slowest average finisher times since 2005 at 4:19:27 for males and 4:44:19 for females.

demographics and stats and trends for U.S. marathons and worldwide
rankings. Per the tables below, U.S. marathon demographics – gender,
age group, median age and median time – have remained essentially
static in recent years.

Another marathon record includes 98 Marathons with 1,000+ finishers,
up from 92 in 2013 and besting the previous high mark of 94 in 2011 and
2012.
In 2014, there were a 1,200-plus U.S. marathons contested, another record; compared to approximately 300 marathons in 2000.
