This means that the CSKA Sofia player is to miss the semifinal and the final playoff series in the national Superliga as well as the entire summer season with the Lions. A torn ligament is the reason for Salparov to appear with crutches at first semifinal clash between CSKA and Marek Union-Ivkoni Dupnitsa after being replaced on court by Bulgaria′s junior national team libero Anton Vasiliev. The 2011 World League will have to go on without the participation of the internationally renowned player as he will have to undergo surgery.
“A sweat spot on the floor caused me this injury,” Salparov told a BGvolleyball.com reporter. “I will soon find out when and where the operation will take place, but most likely I will also miss the European Championship.“
There are three other liberos that have been called by national head coach Radostin Stoychev within the 29-strong extended roster – Vladislav Ivanov from Levski Volley Sofia, Martin Bozhilov from Marek Union-Ivkoni Dupnitsa and Dobromir Ivanov from LUKOIL Neftohimik Burgas with the former the most likely replacement of Salparov in the Lions′ starting seven.
