Money in the Bank featured two ladder matches for the briefcase: one between the men and another between the women from Raw and SmackDown. The event kicked off with the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, which saw Ember Moon, Dana Brooke, Bayley, Nikki Cross, Naomi, Mandy Rose, Natalya, and Carmella compete for the coveted contract which guarantees the winner a title match at any time of her choosing. Towards the end of the match, Sonya Deville placed Mandy Rose onto her shoulders and placed her on top of the ladder while the other women were down. It appeared as if Rose had the match won until Bayley suddenly hopped back into the ring and knocked Rose and Deville back down to win the briefcase for herself.

Later on in the show, Becky Lynch had to defend the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships back to back. Lynch first successfully retained the Raw Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans, but she then had to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair. After some interference from Lacey Evans outside of the ring, Flair was able to take advantage and win the title, making her a 9-time Women’s Champion. Becky 2-Belts is now officially no more, and Evans and Flair then took the time to beat down Lynch after the match was over. After wrestling twice and now with a 2-on-1 assault, Lynch was outmatched and could not fight back against Evans and Flair, but she did receive some help.

During the beatdown, Bayley ran down to the ring to help out Becky Lynch. The two of them were able to work together, and in the end of the melee, Bayley and Flair were the only two women left in the ring. Bayley made the decision to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase right there on the spot. After successfully landing an elbow drop, Bayley was able to pin Flair to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. The win marks the first time that Bayley has held the title, but she is also a former Raw Women’s Champion, NXT Women’s Champion, and she was one of the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions earlier this year. Bayley celebrated her emotional win with the Hartford crowd after the bell had rung.
