Analysis: Is Raw Suffering Without Brock Lesnar?

With WWE Raw ratings dropping to new lows in recent weeks, Forbes’ Blake Oestriecher has penned a new article asking if the red brand needs a new Universal Champion.

The article notes that despite his infrequent appearances on TV, Brock Lesnar is poised to become the longest reigning WWE Champion in the modern era when he surpassed CM Punk’s 434-day WWE title reign, and fans are growing tired of a top Champion who is largely absent from the TV product.

The article also touches on the new, major TV deals WWE is closing with FOX and NBCUniversal, and notes that while WWE will soon become over $2 billion richer, the TV deals are not “bulletproof”, and keeping the title on Lesnar will only further the myriad of issues surrounding Raw, which include weak feuds with top stars such as Roman Reigns, Jinder Mahal, Bobby Lashley, Sami Zayn and the entire tag team division.
