Unai Emery rued Arsenal’s defensive mistakes in their 2-2 draw with Watford on Sunday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given the Gunners a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time, however, errors from Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz allowed Watford to snatch a point.
Sokratis’ aimless pass was intercepted by Gerard Deulofeu and the ball fell to Cleverley, who pulled one back for the hosts, before the comeback was complete nine minutes from time when Roberto Pereyra converted from the penalty spot after being fouled by Luiz.
Arsenal boss Emery told talkSPORT: “We conceded some mistakes which were very dangerous for us.
“The first goal is like that, but we need to learn and correct that.
“The result is disappointing for us, because after 2-0, we had chances in the second-half to win, but we can only work on our mistakes today for the next matches.
“They [Watford] deserved it because their game plan imposed our game plan in the second-half.”
It could have been worse for Arsenal had Abdoulaye Doucoure netted a golden chance in injury-time to win it.
Emery admitted the Gunners failed to control the tempo of the game in a second-half which Watford dominated.
He added: “After the first-half with the result at 2-0, they were going to push in the second-half.
“They are physically strong and we needed to beat the pressing and connect with our attacking players and have space to score the third goal.
“Above all, for controlling the ball with the possession, we couldn’t do that, because they pushed up and have good players and played how they did last year.”
The result sees Arsenal slip to seventh in the Premier League table, while winless Watford remain bottom.
