The Bengaluru Police have arrested three people concerning the murder of a 70-year-old man who was hacked to death on February 13.
Narayana Swamy, a resident of Caverappa Block in Marathahalli, was attacked with a machete by two bike-borne men.
According to the police, one of the arrested men is Narayana Swamy’s son Manikanta, an eyewitness to the murder.
Police said that Manikanta had orchestrated the killing of his father over some property dispute.
The 32-year-old, who is unemployed, has offered Rs 1 crore and one flat each to two assassins to kill his father.
Narayanswamy, who reportedly owned 28 flats in Bengaluru, was killed after he decided to gift a flat to Manikanta’s wife, Archana.
Police said that Archana was Manikanta’s second wife and that he was accused of murdering his first wife in 2013.
He married Archana in 2020 after being acquitted in the murder case.
But recently, Manikanta started misbehaving with his second wife also, and Narayan Swamy decided to give a flat to Archana so that she and her infant daughter had a source of income.
He had decided to register one of the flats, 1.7 acres of land and Rs 15 lakhs in cash in the name Archana.
This, however, did not go down well with Manikanta, who then plotted to murder his father.
He then contacted the two hitmen, Adarh T and N M Shiva Kumar and promised them Rs 1 crore each and one flat each. As an advance payment, he gave them Rs 1 lakh in cash.
On February 13, the two men attacked Narayan Swamy outside his residence and fled.
Manikanta witnessed the attack and filed a complaint with Marathahalli police.
But during the investigation, Manikanta’s criminal past and reports about the fight within the family over property made him a suspect.
He was arrested on Monday and the two hitmen hired by him to carry out the murder were also taken into custody.
