London – A number of labels have decided to skip out on showing their
collection at the upcoming Milan Men’s Fashion Week this month, including
the likes of Calvin Klein, Ermenegildo Zegna and Bottega Veneta.
Other names who are absent from the usually filled calender schedule
include Cavalli, Brioni and Ermanno Scervino, as fashion houses opt out of
hosting a catwalk show this season. Carlo Capasa, head of the National
Chamber of Italian Fashion noted that many of the fashion brands had
“individual reasons” for not showing those season, citing changes in
strategies and designers as part of the main reasons.
“There are two or three shows less but more events,” he said to WWD. “The
important thing is to challenge yourself and ask questions. In the past, we
had been accused of not changing. Well, now it’s different. There’s a lot
of energy this season, which offers new opportunities.” This season will
see 84 events take place during Milan Men’s Fashion Week, an increase from
the 79 last year.
High end labels such as Ermenegildo Zegna and Calvin Klein have decided to
take a break from the catwalk as new designers come in. Bottega Veneta
previously announced plans to host a combined womenswear and menswear show
in September, in honour of its 50th anniversary, whilst Brioni has
moved its show from Milan to Paris.
