This week on Impact Wrestling, X-Division Champion Brian Cage brought back and old gimmick the promotion hasn’t utilized in quite a few years — Option C.

Back in 2012 then-champion Austin Aries presented a concept called “Option C” for the first time, wherein he could “cash in” the X-Division title for a future opportunity at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship (now the Impact World Championship).

Since its inception Option C has been invoked on four occasions, twice by Aries, once by Chris Sabin, and most recently by Rockstar Spud (now Drake Maverick) in 2015.

Moments after Brian Cage defeated Sami Callihan this Thursday night on Impact Wrestling, the ultra-jacked superstar made a surprising announcement that he would be relinquishing the X-Division title, effective immediately, and will be challenging Johnny Impact for the Impact World Championship at the company’s next pay-per-view event, Impact Homecoming on Jan. 6th.
