BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Calling her a “major part” of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department’s success this past year, Courtney Michaels was recently named the Illinois Fire Service Administrative Professional of the Year. Michaels, an administrative assistant, joined the department in 2020.
According to the Village in an email shared with Patch, Michaels was selected after review of 10 different nominations from fire departments across Illinois. Her work ethic, commitment to the fire service and its members, as well as her public education and safety skills, made her standout among the other commendable nominations.
“No matter what needs to be done and where it needs to happen, she is there,” Buffalo Grove Fire Chief Lawrence Kane said. “Whether it’s payroll, public education ideas, ordering food for prolonged incidents or just ordering ideas and advice, Courtney can be counted on as a fire service professional. We are lucky to have her.”
Officials said in addition to her duties with BGFD, Michaels serves on the Illinois Fire Service Administrative Professional Board helping provide direction, support and training for the organization and its members. She also serves as a member of the MABAS – AHOST Team where she worked to develop a system of credentialing and tracking team members deployed across Illinois and Wisconsin for various emergency and rescue needs.
