Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sounded in a cocky mood after their Boxing Day win over Newcastle United.
The Norwegian boss was delighted as his side responded to Matty Longstaff’s early strike and ran out 4-1 winners with ease at Old Trafford.
Even a knee injury sustained by midfielder Scott McTominay didn’t dampen the mood too much as Solskjaer admitted the victory set them up perfectly for their game with Burnley just 48 hours later.
The Scotsman is set to miss the clash as the Red Devils find out the extent of his knee ligament issue but they were able to rest key forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for around half an hour such was their comfortable lead.
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba was the man to replace McTominay at half-time on Boxing as he continues to return from an injury lay off.
Solskjaer said after the match: “We’re probably in the best position to perform on Saturday.
“One – we knew the game was over after 45 minutes. Two – we’re young, so we’re in with a great chance at Burnley to perform to our best level.
“I think the average age of the outfield players today was 23 and that will make it easier for us to recover. I think Burnley played to the end against Everton and I think we were done after 45 minutes and used the second half as a recovery [period].”
We could still see some rotation with Daniel James and Jesse Lingard two players who could come into the starting XI, along with Phil Jones and Ashley Young.
Solskjaer could choose to rest Mason Greenwood who played 90 minutes against Newcastle, as well as Luke Shaw, and Andreas Pereira or Fred.
