Chelsea are reportedly set to meet with Frank Lampard over the manager’s role at Stamford Bridge as Juventus prepare to confirm the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as their new coach.
The Derby boss has been a frontrunner for the role ever since it became apparent Sarri would return to Italy to manage the Serie A outfit.
Dallaglio says says he’d prefer Frank Lampard replaced Sarri than Mourinho at Chelsea
The Italian secured a third-placed Premier League finish and won the Europa League in his debut season in England, while he also guided the Blues to the EFL Cup final.
But he came under fire from the Chelsea supporters, who criticised his style of play as the Blues languished well behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League table.
Sarri is reportedly in line for a salary increase when he takes the Turin hot-seat, with his earnings increasing from €5.6 million per year to around €7m per season when he joins.
And according to Goal, Chelsea plan to open discussions with Lampard over the soon-to-be vacant position.
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has also been considered for the role but he is said to be cautious about taking the job due to Chelsea’s two-window transfer ban.
Massimiliano Allegri, who recently stepped down as Juve boss after winning five consecutive titles with the club, shares the same concerns as the Dutchman.
Another manager whose name also been thrown in the hat is Rafael Benitez, who managed Chelsea on an interim period for part of the 2012/13 season.
The Newcastle boss’ current deal expires this summer and there have been difficulties in agreeing a renewal for him to stay on at St James’ Park.
