CONCORD, NH — Concord High School wrestlers won their home opener against Windham High School, 44 to 32, on Wednesday night.
Forfeits made all the difference in the win, with back-and-forth leads and a thin 12-point spread victory for the Crimson Tide.
Concord wrestler Jacoby Merrill started the varsity bouts with a 16-10 decision against Reid Lambert.
Windham then won the next two bouts.
Liam Shambo bested Carl Sirrianna by fall in the 190-pound division, and Athanasios Vougias pinned Isaiah Puckett in the 215.
Wayne Gutierrez Sakakeeny, in the 285-weight slot, won by forfeit, as did Biswas Darji of Concord in the 106.
Jason Ciano of Windham beat Carter Buxton by fall in the 113, while Isaiah Brien of Concord returned the favor over Evan Ortolani. Windham’s Jacob Hoyt, a co-captain, then won the 126-weight category by forfeit.
The back and forth continued between the teams.
Owen Gregg for the Crimson Tide pinned Zachary Freni in the 132 while Liam McGrail, a co-captain for Windham, won by technical fall against Dominic Schinella, 20 to 5 in the 138. Concord’s Jaxon Carter beat Christopher Guarnaccia by fall, and then Rocco Ponzini of Windham won a 2-1 decision against co-Captain Sawyer McCready in the 150-pound class.

With a one-point Concord lead, Maximus Chung of Concord beat Nolan Lamb by technical fall, 17-1.
Co-Captain Anthony Gualtieri of Concord then secured the Tide win with a pin against Ryan Hiltz in the 165-weight category.
Crimson Tide junior varsity wrestlers scored solid victories against the Jaguars on Wednesday night, too, 13 to 2.
Varsity wrestlers will compete at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Friday and Saturday, while dozens of junior varsity wrestlers from several New Hampshire schools will be involved in bouts at Concord High School on Saturday. Concord wrestlers will also compete at the Noble Maine Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28, while junior varsity wrestlers will be in Natick, Massachusetts, for a regional tourney. Both girls and boys will have separate bouts at the Natick event.
Wrestlers from around the region will also compete in Keene on Jan. 4 at the Annual Minickiello Wrestling Tournament.
The Londonderry Lancers will be in Concord for bouts on Jan. 8.
