French luxury label Dior has unveiled their spring 2016 ads. The campaign
was shot by Patrick Demarchelier, and features a cast of models including
Sofia Mechenter, Roos Abels, Staz Lindes, Maartje Verhoef, Grace Hartzel and
Binx Walton.
Walton is known for gracing the cover of Teen Vogue, and has walked the
runway for top fashion houses such as Chanel and Céline. Lindes has been
profiled on vogue.com, and has walked the runway for Saint Laurent.
Mechenter has been the face of Dior before when she was cast at age 14 to
open the Dior Haute Couture show. They are arguably the most known faces
out of all the models in the campaign.
The ads are set to be unveiled first by Harper’s Bazaar in the U.S.
and InStyle
Korea on January 19. Harper’s Bazaar Japan, Vogue Paris, and *Elle
China will reveal them on January 20.
Dior has described the ads as an “homage to modernity, femininity, and
glamour.”
It should be noted that this is former creative director Raf Simons’ last
ready-to-wear collection for the brand. The designer, who took the reins at
Dior over from John Galliano after he was ousted, helped boost the label’s
sales 60 percent between 2011 and his departure according to New York
Magazine. In October, Simons stepped down from his role.
The cast of impressive models coupled with the publicity of this being his
last ready-to-wear collection for the brand could result in an impressive
sales quarter for Dior.
The brand’s next two collections will be designed by Dior’s in-house team,
meaning that there doesn’t seem to be any plans to name a new creative
director anytime soon. If the documentary Dior and I taught us anything,
it’s that Dior has an excellent design team in place that can handle this,
however, who knows what could happen with a main person’s creative vision.
For now, the brand proceeds with business as usual
