River Island is set to release its first accessories-only collection as
part of its Design Forum initiative, after announcing jewellery designer
Dominic Jones as its latest designer.
The collection will comprise of nine styles, including necklaces,
earrings, a key ring, and a phone case, which have all been inspired by the
Venus fly trap, with Jones’ drawing on the “juxtaposition of the
carnivorous plant”. There is also a punk-chic vibe to the collection with
the appearance of blue bottle flies and the use of gunmetal.
Commenting on the collection, Jones said it is a “celebration of the
beauty in the oddity of life, subverting the grotesque, and presenting them
as the beautiful. The collection has a real sense of humour, pieces are fun
and witty but also desirable and detailed”.
Jones, who studied at London’s Sir John Cass School of Art and Design,
has been awarded NewGen sponsorship numerous times, and his collaboration
with River Island will launch during London Fashion Week this September
with a short film.
The jewellery designer follows in the footsteps of Zoe Jordan,
Jean-Pierre Braganza and, most recently, Sibling by collaborating with
River Island.
The Dom Jones x River Island Design Forum collection will hit stores
from September 12, with prices ranging from 20 to 70 pounds.
