President Donald Trump launched into a bizarre Twitter defence of his mental health on Saturday, claiming he was "a very stable genius" and "like, really smart" ahead of his annual physical exam next week.
Mr Trump’s took to Twitter to repair damage after his reputation took a hit from the publication of Michael Wolff’s West Wing tell-all, Fire and Fury.

In a series of tweets, he wrote: “Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats and their lapdogs, the Fake News Mainstream Media, are taking out the old Ronald Reagan playbook and screaming mental stability and intelligence.
“Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames.
"I went from VERY successful businessman, to top T.V. Star to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius….and a very stable genius at that!”
In his book, author and journalist Mr Wolff painted a devastating picture of life inside the West Wing, infuriating Mr Trump who, he said, never wanted to be president.
Speaking to Radio 4’s Today Show yesterday, he added fuel to the flames.

"The truth is, over this period that I witnesses, this seven or eight months, they all came to the conclusion gradually at first, then faster and faster, that something was unbelievable amiss here.
"That this was more peculiar than they ever imagined it could be. And at the end, they had to look at Donald Trump and say, ‘No, this is a man who can’t function in his job as president.’
Next Friday, 71 year-old Mr Trump will undergo the customary presidential physical.
During the presidential campaign his personal physician, Harold Bornstein, declared: "If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."
