OSWEGO, IL — The at-fault driver involved in Wednesday afternoon’s crash at Orchard Road and Tuscany Trail was accused of driving under the influence, police said.
Allynda Hammond, of the 500 block of Station Boulevard in Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and improper turn after the head-on collision that occurred at about 1:45 p.m.
Police determined in a preliminary investigation that Hammond, driving a Kia SUV, was traveling southbound on Orchard Road when she attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection with Tuscany Trail. The Kia navigated back into southbound Orchard Road traffic when it hit a Ford F550 head-on, police spokesperson Cathy Nevara told Patch.
The Kia ended up in a ditch as a result. Both cars were towed from the scene.
Hammond refused medical treatment, Nevara said. The driver of the truck did not report any injuries.
The 63-year-old Aurora woman was taken to the Oswego Police Department for processing. She was issued a notice to appear in court on Dec. 5 before being released.
Southbound Orchard Road, near the intersection with Galena Road, was closed for about an hour while police investigated.
