ENFIELD, CT — Members of a family which called Enfield home for more than 30 years are gearing up for the ride of their lives, with the purpose of raising money for desperately-needed cancer research.
Sam McSheffrey has teamed with his son Billy, daughter Caitlyn Gable, daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Duran Vota and their friend Chris Manchester to comprise Curley’s Cruisers, a name that honors Chris and multiple extended family members currently battling cancer and those who have lost their lives to the dreaded disease.
The team will be participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) in August to raise money for life-saving cancer care and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. This
fundraising effort is a bike-a-thon that crosses the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“I’m riding for my friend Chris – who’s currently fighting his own cancer battle and receiving treatment at Dana-Farber,” Billy McSheffrey wrote. “I’m also riding for my Papa, my aunts Betty, Isobel, Patti and Donna, my uncles Michael, Mark, Stephen, and my cousin Josh. I’m a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100 percent of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s tireless commitment to finding a cure.”
Gable wrote, “Chris travels to Dana-Farber biweekly to fight and we couldn’t be more proud to ride alongside him in August.”
“Curley’s Cruisers” met their pediatric partner at Fenway Park in Boston recently during a
scheduled event hosted by the Jimmy Fund. The team has taken on “Bryce’s Bikers” as its official second name, according to Sam’s wife Cindy.
“Team “Curley’s Cruisers” is so appreciative of your help,” she said.
Tax-deductible donations to their fundraising efforts may be made to Team Curley’s Cruisers here. Donations can also be mailed to Curley’s Cruisers, 22 Copper Lantern Drive, Plymouth, MA
02360. Checks made out to Sam McSheffrey will be deposited into the team account at
Pan-Mass.
