In an email to Patch, Police Det. Richard Bango confirmed Stephanie Peterson, 64, of Shelton, was hit by a car while crossing the street in the area of Howe Avenue and White Street just before midnight on Jan. 6.
The driver, who left the scene of the crash, has been identified and is cooperating with police, according to Bango.
Bango also noted an arrest is expected to be made in connection to this incident soon but did not provide an exact timeline.
The Shelton Herald reports Peterson was on her way home from work at Stop and Shop in Ansonia and was hit by the car a few hundred feet away from her Shelton home.
A candlelight vigil was recently held to honor Peterson, who grew up in Bridgeport and was a fixture in the community for decades, according to the Shelton Herald.
