At its August meeting, the Newtown Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend conditional use approval for a new fried chicken takeout business at the Village at Newtown.
The shop would be among the first suburban franchise locations for Philadelphia’s Love & Honey Fried Chicken in Fishtown, which is “spreading its love” to the suburbs and beyond.
Pending final approval of the board of supervisors, the fried chicken eatery is planning to set up shop in a soon to be vacant store front at the Village at Newtown shopping center.
The new eatery will predominantly be a takeout service although there will be a limited amount of indoor seating provided, land use attorney Ed Murphy told the planners.
Rated as the best fried chicken restaurant in Philadelphia in 2018, the eatery is known for its hand breaded fried chicken, its fried chicken sandwiches, its chicken tenders, chicken and waffles, tater tots, wings, cornbread muffins, pimento cheese dip, and house made sauces.
In 2017, Todd and Laura Lyons opened the first Love and Honey Fried Chicken at 1100 North Front Street in Philadelphia.
“Our chicken is hand-breaded and fried to order. We pay attention to details. Three sweet pickles on the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich – why? So that there is a pickle in every bite. That’s the love part. The love we have for each other is how this all started, but when it comes to our business, love is the thought and the attention we give to each item, each order, and each customer,” they say on their website.
The conditional use application will now go before the board of supervisors for consideration.
Love & Honey Fried Chicken will also be “spreading the love” with new franchise locations in University City, South Philly, King of Prussia, Ardmore, Marlton, NJ, and Washington D.C.
