Giorgio Armani has long been the living legend and iconic international
luxury brand to close out Milan Fashion Week. However, that is going to
change.
The brand’s show has moved to Friday September 23 this fall, leaving Milan
Fashion Week without a major brand to close. The Camera Nazionale della
Moda’s calendar is only temporary, but the shows, which will run from
September 21 to September 26, will open with Gucci, preceded by Blugirl,
and end with quite a few emerging brands like Lucio Vannotti and Piccione.
While Armani has not given the specific reasons behind his decision, part
of it might be due to his Emporio Armani spring 2017 fashion show scheduled
to take place in Paris in honor of the restyling of the brand’s boutique
and Caffe. It is also suspected Armani might have finally been fed up with
being the only international designer to close Milan Fashion Week for years
now.
After his men’s show last June, Armani urged the Italian fashion industry
to work on the fashion calendar.
“Why should I be the only one to always close Fashion Week? There should be
a turnover and I hope some of my colleagues will collaborate on this
issue,” he said.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any of the other major brands showing
have answered his call. It would have been just as easy for Versace, Prada,
or Missoni to step up in his place, but all of those brands seem to prefer
their current spots on the fashion calendar. The impact this will have on
Milan Fashion Week is yet to be seen.
