One of the major problems that the visually-impaired population faces is money recognition, especially for paper currency.
Working closely to alleviate this issue, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the government will soon make new coins of Rs 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 available to public. These coins will be visually impaired-friendly.
Speaking in Lok Sabha while presenting Union Budget 2019-20, Sitharaman said, “A new series of coins of Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5, Rs 10, and Rs 20, easily identifiable to the visually impaired, were released by the Prime Minister on March 7, 2019. These coins will be made available for public use shortly.”
